The Food of Month-Mooncake

As the 2016 mind-autumn festival is getting closer ,mooncakes are turning up all over China, from ordinary supermarket to high-end department store.

The holiday is one of China's four most important festivals(other three ones are Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Qingming Festival), and as early as about one month before the actually date arrives,  top hotels get into the spirit with lavish treats in lovely packaging. Traditionally, the sweet round pastry has a rich thick filling usually made from red-bean or lotus-seed paste and covered by a thin crust. It may also contain yolks from salted duck eggs, integrating a unique savoury flavour into the sugary taste. Fillings and crusts have become more diverse over time, the new versions include but not limit to ice-cream, meat, and green tea mooncake.

The moon in Chinese culture represents reunion and homesickness, and the crust top of each moon-shaped pastry is generally imprinted with the Chinese characters for longevity and harmony - and often the name of the bakery and the filling.
